Do Incoming Links Hurt Your Website?

by Hans Kristian Anderson on Oct.15, 2009, under Search Engine Optimization

Hi welcome back.

The question is will incoming links hurt your website? The general consensus by the experts is no they don’t. The basis for this theory is not that hard to understand.

The answer is, if they did, people would be linking to their competitors websites with bad phrases from all the lousy websites out there to hurt the competitions sites. Before you knew it search results would be so bad nobody would use search engines any more.

The one thing you should never do with regards to incoming links is never link to websites that have been banned from the search engines or use tactics that are against the terms
of service.

Link farms are setup specifically with thousands and thousands of links, stay away from them as these links can and probably will hurt your search engine rankings.
