3 Affiliate Marketing Myths You Should be Aware Of

Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money on the web. This article will aim at uncovering some of the myths surrounding affiliate marketing.

Traffic to your website Webinar.

Myth one: it is hard work or takes an expert to run websites and blogs; please, don’t believe it. The truth of the matter is that maintaining your sites is the easiest part of the process; you add a new content article every once in awhile or when there is a new product that you are promoting. Okay, your blog is centered around dog training and you are promoting an eBook in that niche. The only time you really need to worry about adding new content is when the product’s creator upgrades or changes the product that you are promoting. Maintaining your site is the least of your worries. Don’t be confused and think that you won’t have to do any work, you still have to get visitors to your site. Just because you bring visitors to your site doesn’t mean that traffic has something to do with running the site itself. The next myth is something that we have all heard, you can get rich online without spending any money or very little money. Let me tell you this, you can make money to pay small bills with but you will never get rich online without investing your earnings. The good thing is that you don’t need an incredibly large amount of money to invest because you can start small and then scale things up as your revenue increases. Plain and simple, the only sure way to experience fast and steady growth is to pay for your traffic or pay for outsourcers to create huge amounts of optimized content that leads back to your sites, anyone telling you different is spreading the myth. Yes, you can make good money with free methods if you are very creative and have lots of time on your hands but it still will only be a fraction of what is possible with paid traffic. The big boys use paid advertising, don’t you want to join them? You know how important targeted traffic is; well that is where paid traffic beats out free traffic 10:1.

Some consider affiliate marketing to be nothing more than spam but this is unfounded. The truth of the matter is that promoting affiliate products is a great way to make some money from commissions. This myth has arisen because there are some affiliate marketers who have resorted to spam which has given the whole industry a bad reputation. But the overall affiliate marketing system and the networks running them are genuine and pay thousands of dollars in affiliate commission every month. Quite the opposite, in fact, the networks try to limit the spam as much and possible and shut down the accounts of spammers. They are completely against spam and take proper measures to ensure it doesn’t take place. Overall, affiliate marketing is full of unfounded myths which is why it is vital to learn more and stay ahead of the competition.

    Hey Hans,

Yep, it does sound that way. And I fully agree with your last comment. Take care and have a nice weekend, my friend.

  • Hi Michael, I honestly can’t argue with anything you have said and I believe we are both on the same page as far as free and paid traffic is concerned. As far as Google goes your definitely right, their attitude towards marketers and the constant changes they make, not to mention closing accounts for what they deem inappropriate, only opens the doors to smaller more friendly companies as you mentioned.

A mixture of both paid and free traffic techniques should be utilized. The determining factor may ultimately depend on the individual internet marketer and their financial resources or their lack of.

    Take care,

    Hans

    Hi Hans,

Likewise, I also look forward to further interactions with you and building a solid relationship as friends. You seem like a nice, knowledgeable, and sincere guy, and I’m always down with kicking it with your kind of peeps. No problem on my visiting and commenting here either. You are very welcome! And thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts, opinions and views here as well. I also appreciate it. :)

Now getting back to the ongoing discussion, as I said in my previous comment, paid traffic is not a bad thing. In fact, I think it is good marketing tool, when you know how to use it. And you are right in a lot of ways about the fact that it can increase traffic more than free methods, particularly in terms of the SPEED in which the traffic hits a website. Paid traffic can generate massive amounts of traffic very, very quickly!

Indeed, it can mean the difference between success or failure in some cases, especially for those who don’t have the first clue about how to get free traffic coming to their websites. In such instances, I would highly recommend paying for traffic to your site, but ONLY after you have confirmed that your offer is ready to go (converts well) by either studying in-depth a reliable traffic generation course / IM marketing course that focuses on paid advertising, or consulting with a Professional Internet Marketing Company about how to approach your advertising campaign.

Moreover, while Google may be the biggest and most popular PPC advertising agency (and expensive) on the Internet, it is NOT the ONLY one in the game. There are many other places to pay for traffic that are a lot more affordable and safer to use. For example, AdBrite, where you can get started for as little as $25 and actually see some results, too.

Not to mention that these smaller advertising agencies are much more approachable, cordial and personal with their customers. In fact, they will actually get on the phone and assist you in getting things set up and will even advise you on what kind of offers are working on their network, along with which ones are not working so well, which enables you to make more informed decisions about your advertising campaigns. When was the last time you heard of Google doing that? Yeah right!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Google for a lot of things, but paid advertising is not one of them. In fact, I have an AdWords account open with them at present, with $100 balance from a gift certificate I got from them, but I don’t use it. Because, quite frankly, they have made it too complicated to use properly, with all of their rules, terms, requirements, etc., and so I don’t enjoy using it. I may start employing them at some point in the future, most likely via outsourcing, but they are definitely on the back burner for now.

As far as free traffic is concerned, yes, like you said, and as I mentioned before, it does take TIME to get. I won’t deny that fact. But when you set your sites up properly by providing good content (evergreen, sticky, unique, etc.), keeping up on your SEO (on-site and off), and don’t forget social plugins (Digg, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) — all in an effort to place highly in the major Search Engines (esp. Google, who owns the search industry, currently claiming 75% of the monthly search volume worldwide) — then it starts out slowly yet grows to the point where it just keeps coming in droves and usually converts* much higher than paid traffic. This is because it is highly targeted, due to the nature of White Hat free traffic generation methods. (* That really depends on your offer and your landing page / sales letter copy.)

Anyway, I think I’ve said enough for now and need to get back to work, so I’ll end here. Thanks again, man, and have a great, success filled, and God-blessed day, my friend.

  • Hi Michel,

I appreciate your comments and I’m glad you accepted my friendship on facebook. I agree with you that paid methods are not guaranteed and that they can be a risky venture especially for new internet marketers. But as I said in the post-

“Yes, you can make good money with free methods if you are very creative and have lots of time on your hands but it still will only be a fraction of what is possible with paid traffic.”

Free methods to work, writing and submitting articles, posting on forums or other blogs generating back links, or any of the other free methods, but they do take a lot of time. Most new marketers have full time jobs, school and families. I don’t think you should necessarily run out and spend money on an adwords campaign but taking advantage of a service like fiverr, where you can get work done for you at a very decent cost would be much more productive and time saving.

I look forward to interacting with you.

    Hans

    Hey Hans,

Thanks a lot for your friend request on Facebook, and the invitation to visit your blog. You have a very nice site here.

Yeah, and I love the dark color background theme you’re using. I use one on one of my sites as well, although they do require more work (in my opinion), especially with finding nice graphics. So I tend to stick with the traditional light color background for most of my sites.

Now about the myths you discussed in this post, I agree with some of your commentary, but not all of it, particularly your stance on free traffic versus paid traffic.

The next myth is something that we have all heard, you can get rich online without spending any money or very little money… Plain and simple, the only sure way to experience fast and steady growth is to pay for your traffic or pay for outsourcers to create huge amounts of optimized content that leads back to your sites, anyone telling you different is spreading the myth… The big boys use paid advertising, don’t you want to join them? You know how important targeted traffic is; well that is where paid traffic beats out free traffic 10:1.

Indeed, I found it rather funny that you so heavily negated free traffic sources as being viable, and yet you are promoting Chris Farrel — who admits that he relies primarily on free traffic sources and has built his business largely from employing them — in your site’s pseudo-popup.

Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m not saying that paid traffic is a bad thing, because it’s not. But I strongly disagree with you in that it beats free traffic at being more targeted. And not to mention that paid traffic is not without it’s problems or heartaches either, which include but are not limited to “losing your shirt” (figuratively speaking) on a bad advertising campaign. I’ve read about it happening more times than I honestly care to stomach.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend paid traffic methods to MOST so-called “Newbies” simply because they don’t know the first thing about advertising and marketing (online or off), or that there is even a difference between them. And they tend to be the ones who “lose their shirts” (so to speak), and then give up and/or quit their online business, thinking that Internet Marketing doesn’t work, when in fact it does, if you know what you’re doing.

On the other hand, when you can get highly targeted traffic without paying a dime for it (other than your time invested in obtaining it, which should be noted, because time is money), then I’m all for it, and that’s a winner in my book. But then again, maybe I’m just spreading the myth that free traffic does work and works very well, or I just might have too much time on my hands… ;)

At any rate, thanks again for your friendship and the opportunity to share my thoughts on your blog. Please feel free to visit any of my sites and reciprocate often. Have a truly wonderful, prosperity filled day, and God bless YOU and YOURS!

    Sincerely,

    Michael Brock

P.S. My latest project is an inbox magazine or newsletter at GETFORREAL.com (tentatively entitled, “Get Enlightened Today » Free Online Report » Relationships, Earnings, Assets & Lifestyles Newsletter”), which has only been up for a couple of weeks and is admittedly severely lacking in content at the moment, as we’ve encountered numerous technical difficulties with it right from the start, but everything seems to be working fine now. Not to mention that I am the sole content provider at present, since my partners (my brother and my cousin) are more of the silent type in our little joint venture partnership, and I have yet to recruit any more “Experts” for the panel, which is my main focus currently.
