Web Server Support
by Hans Kristian Anderson on Mar.06, 2010, under Domains and Hosting
This article goes into getting the right web server support from managed servers. I will also explain to you how to find out what kind of support you may get.
Once you have made the decision to use a dedicated server for your web hosting purposes, you then need to select a suitable web hosting company that offers great server support. There are many companies available, and a simple online search will produce thousands of results. While most companies will brag that their product is the best available, this is often not the case. You will need to consider the various factors that denote a quality product. You will need to examine both the factors that affect the big picture and the smallest details. By comparing the options you are presented with, you will be able to select the most appropriate company.
One of the most important things to consider when selecting a dedicated server is the level of support offered by the web hosting company. While this may seem rather difficult to determine at first, it is nonetheless possible. Simply approach their customer service department with a question, and you will be able to tell from the way in which they handle your inquiry. They should be able to field any question you pose and also make you feel like a valued potential customer.
The level of technical support provided by the managed servers is also important. Some people wish to have full access to the options and components of their dedicated server, so they will be able to do anything that they wish to do with it. Others prefer companies that will provide you with people who have the necessary experience to deal with any problems that you might have.
Most people who use dedicated servers do not wish to have to deal with the running and maintenance of the server, but instead wish to have full control of their websites. You might prefer to engage the services of a company that provides its customers with a wide range of benefits, offering them the support they require to ensure that their websites are operation at an optimal level. Both the amount and quality of the support offered should be right for your needs.
You should not rush this process, but should take your time to find out as much as possible about any potential company. The support provided by the company you eventually choose should not only meet your contract needs, but also your personal needs as well.
In order to obtain an unbiased account of the support offered by a company, you should take a look at some of the reviews posted online by customers. You should seriously consider those companies that receive praise from their customers and avoid those that receive bad reviews.

Is Free Domain Names Registration and Hosting Real?
by Hans Kristian Anderson on Mar.04, 2010, under Domains and Hosting
If you were hoping that there might be such a thing as free domain names registration and hosting forget it. Although everyone would love to have this the reality is that free web domain names or free domain names hosting are non existent.
It’s never really free because you will be paying one way or another for this so called offer to register free domain names. Registrars pay a small fee to ICANN in order to register the domain name virtually making it impossible that the company that you believe is offering a free domain name is actually offering this for free. Save your self some time and just buy a domain. The truth is that domain names are really not that expensive so don’t waste time in trying to find a free domain name.
Dot com domain names can be more expensive than other domains like dot info. However people prefer to use dot com domains as they are the most well known. Some companies offer great plans which also include longer expiration periods as well as other perks. Making the decision of selecting the right registrar is very important. Buy a domain name from a company whose customer service is excellent. If you ever have any problems with your domain, you will be required to correct this problem as soon as possible, having a domain name with a well known company like 1 & 1 or Go Daddy is the smart way to go with their outstanding customer service.
So yes it is possible to find a registrar that offers free sub-domains but a registrar that offers a totally free domain, not going to happen. Purchasing a domain name is a lot easier and less expensive in the long run. So buy a domain name instead of searching for registrars that you think offer free domains.

WHOIS Domain Name Search
by Hans Kristian Anderson on Jan.21, 2010, under Domains and Hosting
By doing a WHOIS domain name search, one can simply search the owner of a domain name. So if you have a domain name your personal information will be available to the public who search for it.
The domain name registrars recently have started to give users the option of selecting the privacy option when registering a domain name. This option is not always available by companies for the reason that it would seem that people are hiding their true identity. If you take the privacy option searchers will only get the contact information of the domain name registrar when they search for ownership of a domain using the WHOIS domain lookup. So you will only be able to get information of those domain names that have not opted for the privacy option.
When performing a WHOIS search, you have to simply enter the entire domain name into the search box and then press enter. You will get the complete information of the domain name address if the owner of it has not selected the privacy option. The information that you get includes their name, full address, telephone number, the date the domain name is set to expire and the hosting IP.
If you do not want people to see your personal information, then you have to contact your registrar and check with them whether they provide the service of a privacy option. If it’s not available then you will have to change your registrar and find one that offers such an option. These days the privacy option is provided by many of the registrars free of cost or at a minimal charge.
One way that people try to get around paying any extra fees is by entering false information on the registration form, in this way they will not have to select the privacy option. Well it looks easy but it is in violation of terms of the contract with your registrar and if caught your domain name will be taken away from you.
One option that is available if you don’t want to pay for the privacy option nor wish to let people see your information. Simply rent a post office box and use it as your address. In this way, the post box number is given to those who search on a WHOIS domain name search and hence your private information remains private.
To do a WHOIS domain name search simply go to any domain registrar’s homepage, click on the tab or link which says, “WHOIS”. The rest is easy to figure out.

Domain Name Registrations
by Hans Kristian Anderson on Dec.17, 2009, under Domains and Hosting
Domain name registrations are not difficult or expensive. The basics of domain names registration is explained in this article to help you understand it. (Note: If you plan on blogging with multiple sites on the same blog choose a domain name that best fits your theme)
You have to be sure about which domain name extension you need to use during the domain name registration. If you want to run your website for commercial use, then you should go for a .com extension. If it is for a nonprofit organization then you may choose to use .org. Other options include .net, .info, and .biz. Some extensions cannot be used by the general public unless proper authorization is achieved .edu and .gov are two of them.
Once you have decided upon the selection of the extension, you need to see whether the domain name that you desire is available or not. In order to do this, you can use a site like 1&1 or Go Daddy. There are many other domain name registration services that let you search for a domain name. You simply enter the name that you desire and wait to find out whether it is available or not. If the name is already taken, you will receive a list of suggestions that are similar to the name you entered.
The next step is the actual domain name registration. You are strongly advised to select a well known registrar so that the chances of having customer service issues down the road are decreased. To compare different registrars, you can search for reviews of different domain name registration companies and see what others are saying about them. Most of the registrars will charge you around $10. After you have decided which registrar to use just follow the instructions on their website. You will be required to fill out a form with your personal information and then pay them with a credit card.
Make sure you type your desired domain name correctly as refunds are not available.
Once you have submitted the form you then have to wait for the registrar to process the information. This can sometimes take a couple of days to complete the process in full.
