Creating and Managing an Article Directory
by Internet Marketing Online on Oct.22, 2011, under Article Writing, Internet Marketing
Most online marketers totally ignore the possibilities inherent with creating and managing an article directory. Perhaps one reason is they automatically think about competing with the giants such as Ezinearticles or Articlesbase. Yet there are other uses and purposes that an article directory can serve. An article directory gets traffic, and what you expose to that traffic is the key to what you can do with it. How about creating niche article directories, or really a directory on any kind of theme of subject area. There is a lot that can be done with an article directory, it just takes a little extra thinking. Also, in case you’re interested, be sure to try the Article Demon software, it’s extremely effective.

You might think that you have to be a technical wizard or have a large bank account to start an article directory -not true. In the last couple of years, many new things are possible when it comes to what you can do online. Whether you want to use WordPress or a regular website, you can now find several scripts that allow you to easily create article directories. It won’t cost you much to obtain these scripts, and some of them can have you up and running in ten minutes or so. One such software that’s easy to find is Article Dashboard. You can get this software for free for the time being. You only need a web host to install this software, and you set it up and get started. No more excuses about “I can’t.”
Another really great method for finding good content for your new directory is to legally and ethically syndicate articles from established article directories. Be sure to check the TOS for each directory to avoid any hassles, though. It is a good idea to start gathering or producing content before your directory is finished, though. It is very easy to search for your keywords in other directories and then simply publish them in your own directory with full attribute of course. We do realize that not everybody would want to use that kind of strategy. But it could be part of your initial strategy to jump start your own directory.
If you want to develop your article directory, then it is important to choose a solid hosting provider. If you are not familiar with hosting, then just choose a popular provider with good reviews and open a shared account. If you want to grow into something larger, then it would be easier to start off with something that can handle more traffic and bandwidth. Be careful about falling for the advertisement that says you get unlimited everything in the basic package. But that only applies to relatively small amounts of traffic. Rest assured, there is an unspoken truth that your site will not be available on a shared account if you put too much load demand on a shared server. If you anticipate getting a lot of traffic, then simply get an account for dedicated hosting or even a VPS will be better than shared.
Creating and managing an article directory will give you a lot of flexibility that you would not have. If you are using other sites with it, then be sure to put them on different hosting accounts. You may know about how some will have a blog and a site on the same domain; we are talking about cross marketing from different domains. If you really build your directory, then you will understand why we say these things regarding the benefits. Before you go, read this Article Demon review.

Article Directories Making Money with Articles

Article Directories
Article directories are sites that contain articles that are free. As a promotion method these articles are usually put there as an internet marketing tools method by whoever owns the copyright to them. Each article has the owners byline placed under it (free link building strategy webinar) so that those who eventually read the article will know who wrote it (or at least who owns it) and will be able to get in contact with or visit their website for further information.
So that they will make you money, articles directories are a great place to put your articles. By using this method, people who are interested in your service or product will see your article, view you as an expert in the subject, and will visit your website. Even if you cannot write or do not have any knowledge on the subject on which you are promoting (for example for you run an affiliate website), you can always hire a writer to do the work for you. Getting quality articles written will be expensive up front, but they will pay for themselves in no time, either through affiliate sales or selling your own services, and everything from then on is pure profit.
Let’s take a real life example. Imagine that you are working from home as an accountant. You write an article on an accounting topic and place it on various article directories. Those who are looking for the subject you wrote about will read your article, see that you have the knowledge and skill that is needed to do a job for them, and visit your website or contact you via e-mail. Your article just gained you a new client who may use your services regularly, but will definitely give you a nice profit at least once.
Furthermore, since you have posted it on a free article directory, others who have affiliate websites about accounting will inevitably use your article for their website Since they must attach your byline to it, this will bring you even more exposure for every website that re-posts your article. This is because you will be benefiting off of the traffic that they get to their website.
There are numerous article directories out there for you to utilize. Your bet best is to put a copy of each of your articles on every one for maximum exposure. It will eventually help to bring more traffic and customers to your website, which will lead to new orders and more profit.
Content Farms

Content Farms
Are content farms of the same ilk as link farms, and do article directories fit into the content farms category? If not, what’s the difference, and how can you tell? And if article directories are not content farms, then why have they taken a hit with Google’s new algorithm?
Remember link farms? At one time they were all the rage, and an easy way to get a back link from a high page rank site. You’d just submit your links to them, and reap the rewards.

Then the search engines got wise and began disregarding them. Overnight, sites started losing back links left and right. Now virtually no one submits links to link farms anymore. Good riddance to a bad idea!
Oh they tried to make link farms more credible by adding categories, but it was to no avail. Links aren’t content, and so the search engines just weren’t interested.
Now Google is going after what they call “content farms.” But do article directories fall into this group?
Well at face value, it might appear so, but there’s more to it than face value.
Link farms were discredited because they provided no useful content. Article directories on the other hand, do provide useful bits of content in most cases, so they really can’t be discredited for the same reason as a link farm. Most article directories are careful about category choice as well, which should help satisfy the search engines.
Then why have so many of them taken such a hit in ranking?
The main reason is, they weren’t being careful enough!
Even the major article directories were allowing useless articles to get through. Spun articles that made no sense, articles that were stuffed in general categories when there were sub-categories that fit the information better, and even articles submitted into entirely wrong categories.
So it isn’t the mere existence of article directories the search engines object to. It’s more about how they handle their intake of content, and the value that content carries with it.
We know this because, unlike link farms, the article directories weren’t completely blown off the search engine map. They were just reevaluated according to what they had in their archives. Some took a bigger hit than others, and some got through relatively unscathed.
Which is why they’re all in a mad scramble to set things straight!
Now this isn’t saying that some article directories don’t fall into the content farm genre, because there are some that allow just about any articles to pass through. These will either have to make some significant changes, or pack it in. And already we’re seeing some drop like flies.
Yet in general, most article directories provide a great resource for quality content and still hold quite a bit of search engine respect. So it’s not a good idea to lump them all as content farms. In fact, the vast majority of article directories still in existence are great sources for building a reader base as well as getting quality back links from.
But then we have to ask . . .
How do you see the article directories? Are they just content farms to you? Do you simply look at them as a device for getting back links, and care little about the content your links are connected to?
Content farms are depositories for junk. They provide no real value and are merely a place to get a link to your site from another domain. The search engines know this, as do the article directory owners.
And this is why most credible article directories refuse to get categorized as content farms and are taking every measure to assure this is not the case.
Will you do your part?
Article directories are still a valuable asset to content writers, as well as to the search engines. But unless we’re all willing to take them seriously by submitting only quality content in the correct categories, they could eventually go the way of the link farm.
The one and only thing that separates good article directories from content farms is the value and quality they provide. And they can only do this with our submissions. Thus if you value what the article directories can do for you, then you’ll treat them with respect by submitting your best stuff in the proper categories they provide.

Bad Content or Overused Content
by Hans Kristian Anderson on Feb.26, 2010, under Article Writing
Bad Content
When you use bad content, there isn’t anything good that can come of it.
Who wants to go looking for information on something that you are researching and find garbage? One of the big reasons to get on the Internet is to research information in a quick and convenient way.
If you waste a visitors’ time, annoy them, or confuse them with bad content, they are certainly not going to buy from you. It is pointless.
If your information is the same thing that everybody else is using (Private label rights articles), the search engines are not going to like you much either.

Bad or overused content isn’t appreciated by article directories either.
That’s why I always suggest to take PLR content and delete from, add to and modify it to make it your own unique article/report.
if you are going to use PLR stuff for your content, make it your own, unique, don’t just as you received it.
The whole idea is completely pointless, if you just use the same content everybody else is using.
Your information has to be good to make it big online. It has always been this way, and it always will be, so start producing good information now!
“I’m not very good at writing”"
That’s fine, then become good at rewriting articles.
You don’t have to come up with anything new, just make it unique. Take private label content, and rewrite it, improve it, repackage it.
But, you can only do that with content that is already at least decent. If it is bad, trash it and move on.
It is too time consuming to try and turn bad content into good. It is much easier to start fresh.
Look at your content from a visitor’s perspective. If you were looking for information on that specific topic, would you be happy with the content that you are presenting?
Step inside your customer’s/visitor’s shoes and look at your business through their eyes. When you make this procedure a habit, you can only improve your business.
