If you’re like me and you have a deep desire or dream to be an entrepreneur and run your own business, you are more then prepared to do whatever it takes to make your dream come true. You would be more then willing to work long hours, learning everything from bookkeeping to negotiating any money that you would need to start and operate your business. Likewise, if you are working for somebody else, you probably believe that to get ahead you have to undertake whatever responsibility your boss throws your way. Yet, according to Raymond’s interviewee this month, world-renowned entrepreneur and thinker Roger Hamilton, that is exactly the wrong thing to do…

Roger explained how Richard Branson has over 200 companies but he doesn’t run any of them. He has other people running them. More importantly, he didn’t even come up with the ideas for them. Other people brought those ideas to him.

He talks about creating space for things to happen. By allowing other people to create and run with ideas and concepts that they developed you create space for yourself and in turn you will have more. One of the first things to know is that every one of us is probably spending ninety percent of our time on things which are not delivering the kind of value that we could naturally deliver.

In two of the five action steps the first one stated that we need to Step Up! – Take responsibility. Have conviction. Assume a leadership role that gives us the ability to get the response you want from others. Look deeply into your life right now and where ever you are getting the least response you want, job, children etc. Step up in that area and take a leadership role.

The second action step is about Giving Back, not just with money, but with your time. Give back to your own child, a charity that inspires you, or something else you feel is important. Giving back will eventually lead you to your wealth.

This 70 minute interview is on doing well, making a lot of money, but about doing good as well. It is a powerful interview. I learned that spending time doing things that I’m not good at will prevent me from enjoying the success I deserve…literally.
